PAYROLL TAX SPECIALIST

DM Payroll Solutions is seeking a full-time Payroll Tax Specialist to work in our tax filing department at our Troy, Michigan headquarters. This individual will be involved in all aspects of multi-state payroll tax activities for our clients to ensure the timely and accurate remittance and reporting of Federal, State and Local payroll taxes in accordance with governmental regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all federal, state and local payroll tax filings are accurate & paid by governmental due dates.
  • Prepare & review all federal, state and local payroll tax returns & ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations.
  • Reconcile and balance all quarterly and year to date wages and taxes.
  • Reconcile payroll reports to 941s, W-2 preparation, and other required reporting.
  • Understand federal, state and local tax regulations and work with agencies to resolve client issues.
  • Investigate and respond to tax authority notices and correspondence on behalf of clients in a timely manner.
  • Provide customer service to clients answering questions related to their payroll tax filing and associated processes.
  • Monitor activities of payroll system to ensure compliance with governmental requirements – ensure payroll tax filing calculations balance with individual client tax records.
  • Provide analysis, interpretation, & guidance on new or changing tax regulations & how they affect clients.
  • Update new tax codes to support states and localities within the payroll system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • 2-3 years payroll tax filing experience required.
  • Must have knowledge of payroll tax regulations and laws.
  • Strong mathematical competency including ability to understand percentages, balances, and calculations, etc.
  • Exceptional time management and follow up skills required – ability to work under pressure & prioritize work load.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive results with professionalism and a strong focus on client satisfaction.
  • Must be able to keep up with the flow of a busy tax filing department & be a team player while managing multiple tasks.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail; look for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Payroll and customer service experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook). Will use DMPS custom payroll and tax software.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed to ensure timely handling of payroll tax return preparation and filings.
